About Meredith
I am a violinist, visual artist, business leader, wife, and mother of two incredible humans in various stages of leaving the nest. I enjoy transforming (no longer playable) antique and vintage instruments into unique art pieces, most times with special meaning for the recipient woven in through words and/or images. When possible, I do restore old instruments to playing condition or share them with someone who can.
My love of the violin began as a very young Suzuki student. My love of the Bach Double (Concerto for Two Violins in D Minor) began when I learned and performed its three movements with a fellow student violinist with orchestral accompaniment. Decades later, I still know every note of those three movements — Vivace, Largo ma non tanto, and Allegro — by heart.
After raising a family and climbing the corporate ladder (and not playing a note in more than 20+ years), I dusted off my 18th century Hungarian violin during the pandemic and played my heart out. I love it every bit as much as I did all those years ago.
I love everything Bach, Baroque quartets and anything played on the clavichord. The classical violin pieces closest to my heart (and memory) are the Bach Double, the Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1, and the Mendelssohn Octet in E-flat major. As a pianist, I most enjoy Bach’s contrapuntal Two-Part Inventions & Three-Part Sinfonia and Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1.
I play an 18th century Hungarian violin with a rich, warm, smooth tone and a beautiful feel in my hands. He came to me in 1990 and has been affectionately called “Johann” ever since.
